Teeth whitening at Eden Dental Centre

Here’s your Teeth Whitening at Eden Dental Centre 101. We’ll take you through what to expect with the teeth whitening process at our dental practice. Currently, we are using the take-home whitening kits offered by Boutique Whitening, which involves a mouth tray (that will fit perfectly to the shape of your teeth) where you place small amounts of whitening gel, and wear this tray for a period of time as directed by your dentist to achieve the whitening effect you desire.

So, what happens when you book in for a teeth whitening appointment with us?

Before

First things first, we need to make sure that your oral health is in good condition to be able to carry out the treatment – for instance, you may not be eligible for treatment if you have broken teeth or receding gums that expose the nerves. So you’ll come in for an initial assessment and, if the dentist is happy with the level of your oral health, they will be able to take upper and lower impressions of your mouth.

In this initial appointment, your dentist will also go through with you the benefits and risks associated with teeth whitening. Benefits include but are not limited to enhanced appearance and confidence boost; one potential risk of teeth whitening is that it can cause increased sensitivity both during and after treatment. However your dentist will be able to offer advice on how to mitigate this side effect. Note also that if you have crowns, fillings, dentures and similar restorative treatments, these may need to be replaced to match the new shade of your teeth as they will not take to the whitening treatment.

During

The impressions will be sent off to create your mouth trays, which you’ll need to complete to carry out the whitening treatment. It will take around 2 weeks for them to be returned to the practice, and once we have received them, you will come back to have your trays fitted. Your dentist will also provide you with the following:

  • information on how to appropriately care for your whitening trays
  • whitening gels
  • information on how much gel to use and how to apply it to the whitening trays
  • information on what you need to do if you need to top up on your whitening gel

After

After three or four weeks of at-home treatment, you will need to come back in so that your dentist can review the progress. This may include suggestions on increasing or decreasing the amount or strength of whitening gel to achieve your desired shade.

And that’s all there is to it – easy peasy. If you’re interested in teeth whitening treatment at Eden Dental Centre, give us a call on 01726 61212. Alternatively, you can visit our contact page to see how else you can reach us.
